This May Day, a coalition of local labor and community groups will hold a rally and march on Pittsburgh’s Southside as part of International Workers Day and a nationwide “Day Without Immigrants” strike. We stand in solidarity with immigrants, workers, and all oppressed communities; we stand against the criminalization of immigrants and communities of color in Allegheny County and across the country.
This May Day, we march for:
- An end to deportations and immigration-related interment.
- An end to racist legislation and policies that violate and negates our human rights.
- A livable minimum wage of $15/hour and the right to unionize for ALL workers.
- The dignity and human rights of all people, regardless of race or immigration status.
Our coalition calls on the city of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County to adopt and implement policies in keeping with the movement for “Freedom” cities and counties.
What are “Freedom Cities”?
Freedom Cities aim toward building and nurturing communities that are safe for immigrants, Black people, Muslims, LGBTQ+, workers, and all oppressed groups, and seek to provide equitable opportunities to thrive free from fears of physical or economic violence. Freedom Cities are possible through guaranteed workers rights, economic and global justice, investment in people and our planet, community defense and control, and safety beyond policing.
